Navigate The Blood

1 Opera / 5 Regions / 7 Distilleries

A new opera, Navigate the Blood, by indie folk-rock band Admiral Fallow and Gareth Williams. The opera is set in the world of whisky and gin manufacturing and will be touring distilleries throughout Scotland from 02 November until 25 November. We will visit at least one facility in each of Scotland’s five distilling regions.

Navigate the Blood follows the story of Bob and Lena, a husband and wife running a small independent distillery in rural Scotland. Their son Liam disappeared in mysterious circumstances three years ago. Living and working with them is a young Polish woman named Agata. She wants to modernise the distillery by making gin as well as whisky. Into this situation comes Elijah, a young man with a strange, other worldly presence. Elijah looks and moves very like the lost boy…

NOISE is collaborating with Scottish indie-folk band Admiral Fallow on a new project.

Admiral FallowWorking with composer Gareth Williams (Hirda, The Sloans Project) and librettist Siân Evans (Hirda) we have together been exploring how to make an opera that appeals to both indie music fans and opera aficionados. Under the working title The Distilling Project, the band has been working with two opera singers looking at a scenario based around the broad theme of distilling.

In December last year we held an open workshop with the band, which you can see in our new promo video (above).

Since forming in 2007, Admiral Fallow have risen to international acclaim with their unique brand of Scottish folk-inspired pop. Combining songwriting craft with ambitious arrangements and poetic lyricism, the band have earned a devoted global following and toured extensively around the world. Previous collaborators include the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Auricle Ensemble (watch below).
